Emberfall Chronicles
Emberfall Chronicles is the rare mobile RPG that trusts you to sit with a slower story. You build a party, travel a ruined kingdom, and fight in tidy turn-based battles where positioning matters as much as raw stats. The writing is better than it needs to be, with companions who argue, change their minds, and occasionally refuse to follow your plan.
Combat runs on an initiative bar, and you can see exactly who acts next, which makes planning actual chains of attacks feel clever rather than lucky. I spent far too long optimising a three-character combo that stunned a boss before it ever moved. The difficulty curve is fair; when I died it was usually my own fault.
It's a big game for a phone, and it does ask for your attention. But the auto-save is reliable and chapters are sized so you can play one on a commute and stop cleanly. Easily one of my favourite mobile RPGs this year.
What we liked
- Thoughtful turn-based combat with clear turn order
- Writing and characters that actually land
- Chapter structure that fits short play sessions
